A Peach and Silver Wedding

Whitney & Dustin

THE MOOD

Whitney and Dustin knew they wanted their intimate evening wedding to feel special, from the moment guests arrived until they left after the reception. To achieve the elegant but warm atmosphere the pair wanted, designer Randy McManus collaborated with Proximity Hotel’s Jacob Bennett and Martha Bryant in creating a beautiful, straight-from-the-magazine wedding ceremony. The reception was memorable, too: The new couple, their families (from Ohio and New York), and their closest friends had such a good time they ended up asking the DJ from K2 Productions to stay an extra hour!

THE COLOR PALETTE

Warm hues of coral and peach gently punctuated soft silver and grey tones in the wedding decor. Bridesmaids wore grey dresses, and the groomsmen’s tuxes were charcoal hued; the groom’s tux was a lighter shade of grey. The young flower girls wore ivory dresses with grey sashes that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses, and the tiny ring bearer wore a light-grey tux identical to the groom’s. Guests sat in silver Chiavari chairs, and table settings featured silver-toned chargers, flatware, and candleholders. Floral arrangements incorporated white, peach, and coral shades, as did the wedding program and table numbers.

HOW THEY MET

Whitney and Dustin met at work at Siemens Energy in Rural Hall. Whitney says, “I never thought I would meet my husband at work, but I did!” The two started hanging out with a core group of their peers from work, and things just blossomed from there. Whitney sealed the deal when she bought Dustin tickets for a Tarheels vs. Duke basketball game for Christmas – he’s a big fan but had never been to a game.

THE PROPOSAL

Both Whitney and Dustin come from close-knit families, and when it came time to propose, Dustin knew just how to do it. Christmas morning of 2013, the pair were celebrating at Whitney’s parents’ house, opening their gifts in their pajamas, when Dustin proposed. Whitney says, “It was really sweet. I am still really happy he did it in front of my parents – they felt special to be part of it.

THE CEREMONY

About 50 of Whitney’s and Dustin’s friends and family members attended the wedding, which was full of personal touches and sentimental details. The officiant was a family friend of Whitney’s named Kale Dreymala, who flew in from Houston to marry the couple. Flower girls were Whitney’s niece (5) and Dustin’s niece (8), and Whitney’s nephew (3) served as ring bearer.

The Menu by Print Works Bistro

Hors d’oeuvres passed in the Social Lobby after the ceremony included:

  • mini bacon and caramelized onion quiche
  • crispy zucchini chips with red pepper pesto
  • shrimp remoulade shooters

Also offered on display after the ceremony:

  • assorted artisan cheeses and dried fruits
  • assorted crackers and breads

Seated dinner options:

After a salad of seasonal greens, dinner choices were seared chicken with sherry mushroom sauce or seared salmon with honey lime butter sauce, both served with mashed potatoes and green beans. In addition, a children’s menu of fresh fruit, chicken tenders, and French fries was offered to the wedding’s youngest guests.

A special toast:

The bridal toasts were made with the couple’s favorite La Dolce Vita wine from Raffaldini Vineyards in Rhonda, NC. Whitney laughs, “This wine kind of looks like champagne, but it tastes better! Plus, even though Dustin isn’t a wine fan, this is the one he will drink.”
