A Summer Night in Paris Wedding

Porsha and Eric

Proximity Wedding, Porsha & Eric, bride and groom

Inspiration for the Wedding Theme

Early in the couple’s courtship, Eric was stationed in London with the US Air Force, and Porsha worked for a defense contractor, a job that allowed her to telecommute. The pair made the most of Europe, exploring London and visiting Paris, Rome, and other locales.

The Location

The wedding ceremony was held in Proximity Hotel’s White Oak Room, with a reception following in the Weaver Room.

THE COLOR PALETTE

Black, antique gold, and white/ivory…all with a lot of sparkle and shine! Classic florals in shades of ivory and green complemented the place settings, crystal candelabra, and other table decor.

The Menu By Print Works Bistro

Passed cocktails included mini spinach and garlic quiche, crispy zucchini chips with red pepper pesto, and shrimp remoulade shooters. An elegant plated dinner followed, starting with a salad of seasonal greens and featuring seared chicken with sherry mushroom sauce, served with crème fraiche mashed potatoes and wilted spinach.

HOW THEY MET

Porsha and Eric had both attended James E. Dudley High in Greensboro, NC, but hadn’t known one another as students. All that changed at the Dudley Homecoming in 2011, when both participated in the alumni marching band – he on trumpet, and she as a Pantherette. They took note of one another when Porsha inadvertently stepped on Eric’s foot during the performance. Then, a few hours later at an after-party, Porsha almost literally fell in love when she tripped as she entered the door. Guess who helped her up? You guessed it: Eric!

THE PROPOSAL

Porsha was expecting big things, and Eric knew it. On several occasions, Porsha was convinced the proposal was about to happen in as dramatic and public a way as possible…but each time, she was wrong. It turned out that Eric chose to go low-key, making a loving, heartfelt proposal at home. As Porsha says, “His low-key proposal WAS the shock!”

Most Memorable

Porsha’s favorite memories of the wedding all center on love – the love she and Eric felt so deeply, as well as the love and support of family and friends. She describes the ceremony itself as “sacred, important, and emotional,” and says the reception was “glamorous, elegant, modern, antique…and fun!”
