Guilford College

Guilford College is an independent liberal arts college of 1,900 traditional aged and adult students in Greensboro, N.C., providing tomorrow’s leaders with the innovative problem-solving skills, experiences and global perspectives to actively create change in the world. Founded by Quakers in 1837, the College continues to be profoundly influenced by Quaker values, principles and testimonies. Guilford is led by Jane Fernandes, the College’s ninth president and the first deaf woman to lead a college or university in the U.S.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro

North Carolina A&T
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an academic community focused on students-providing them with interdisciplinary learning opportunities, teaching them with faculty renowned for excellence, connecting them to cutting edge discoveries n research, and encouraging them to serve their communities. In an effort to more richly celebrate the accomplishments of students earning their doctoral and master’s degrees, N.C. A&T will inaugurate a graduate student commencement ceremony this May. The new ceremony will take place separately from the main commencement ceremony, which predominantly recognizes undergraduate degree earners. It will feature all the ceremony associated with the hooding of the graduates, a traditional academic rite in which faculty members place special regalia over each graduating student’s robe as a symbol of the culmination of their studies. Both ceremonies will take place Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Greensboro Coliseum, with the main ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the graduate ceremony at 1 p.m.

Undefeated boxing champion, daughter of the legendary Muhammad Ali, author and TV host Laila Ali will be the keynote speaker. Laila’s appearance comes a little less than one year after the death of her father last summer at the age of 74. The most well known of the boxing icon’s children, Laila was born to him and Veronica Porché Ali in 1977. She began boxing at the age of 18, turning professional at 22, earning five world titles and retiring undefeated with a record of 24-0 after eight years. She has been a major supporter of Title IX, a federal law that protects women’s rights to be treated equally in collegiate sports. She is a past president of the Women’s Sports Foundation, through which she has spoken out for Title IX and equality for women in professional and amateur sports, advocating for programs that encourage health, strength and confidence for young women. Laila also co-authored the 2002 book “Reach!,” a dynamic retelling of her own life story aimed at young women

High Point University

High Point University is a private institution that was founded in 1924. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 4,208, its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 380 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. High Point University’s ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Colleges (South).

Wake Forest University

Wake Forest University is a private institution that was founded in 1834 in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest is made up of six schools. Its graduate programs include those in the highly ranked School of Law, School of Business and School of Medicine. Undergraduates are enrolled in either Wake Forest College or the business school. Notable alumni include the shortest NBA player of all-time, Muggsy Bogues; legendary golfer Arnold Palmer; and journalist and talk show host Al Hunt.
